ElevenLabs and Murf both turn text into spoken audio. They aim at different people. ElevenLabs leans toward creators, developers and anyone who wants voice cloning and API access. Murf leans toward teams that want a studio-style editor for voiceovers on slides, training videos and product demos.
This comparison answers one question: which one fits the way you work? We built it from each company’s public pricing and product pages, checked 2026-09-30.
What is the difference between ElevenLabs and Murf?
Think of it as a toolkit versus a workroom.
ElevenLabs is a voice platform. You can generate speech, clone a voice, transcribe audio, make sound effects and call all of it through an API (application programming interface, the way software talks to other software). Its pricing page describes it as serving “enterprises, creators, and developers.”
Murf is a voiceover studio. You write or paste a script, pick a voice, adjust pitch and emphasis, and export audio for a video or presentation. Murf’s own blog lists integrations with Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint and Adobe Captivate. Murf’s blog, updated August 20, 2026, describes the product as offering 200+ text-to-speech voices in 35+ languages.
How much do ElevenLabs and Murf cost?
Both have a free tier and paid plans. The two price structures work differently, so compare the plan that matches your output, not the sticker price.

Both companies also offer yearly billing. On ElevenLabs, yearly billing works out to two months free: Starter $60 a year, Creator $220, Pro $990, Scale $2,990 and Business $9,900. Murf advertises a 33% saving on yearly billing: Creator $228 a year and Business $792. Check the current discount on each page before you commit.
A few details that change the math:
- ElevenLabs bills in credits. Starter includes 30k credits a month, Creator 121k, Pro 600k, Scale 1.8M and Business 6M.
- Murf bills by voice generation time. The Creator plan includes 2 hours a month. Business includes 8 hours and a business license.

Which one wins on voice cloning?
ElevenLabs, if cloning is a core need.
ElevenLabs puts instant voice cloning on Starter at $6 a month and professional cloning on Creator at $22 a month. Professional cloning slots grow with each tier: 30 on Creator, 160 on Pro, 660 on Scale and 2,200 on Business.
Murf lists voice cloning as a feature, but on its pricing page it is an Enterprise add-on. It is not on the Free, Creator or Business plans. If you want a cloned voice without an enterprise contract, ElevenLabs is the shorter path.
Which one is better for developers?
ElevenLabs has more to work with. It publishes separate API pricing with pay-as-you-go text-to-speech, speech-to-text and other audio tools. Murf also has an API and a help page for its plans, but its public messaging centers on the studio.
If you are building voice into an app, an agent or an automation, start with ElevenLabs. If you are producing finished voiceovers by hand, Murf’s editor may save you time.
Which one is better for slides, training and product demos?
Murf, on workflow.
The integrations with Canva, Google Slides and PowerPoint suit people who already build their content there. Murf’s Business plan comes with a business license, and its Enterprise tier lists SSO (single sign-on) and a dedicated success manager. Murf also lists HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications on its pricing page. Those matter if procurement or security will review the purchase.
ElevenLabs also offers an Enterprise plan with custom terms, SSO, priority support and options for HIPAA business associate agreements. So the gap is workflow, not access to enterprise features.
What about commercial use and licensing?
Read this part before you publish anything.
On both platforms, the free tier does not allow commercial use. ElevenLabs adds a commercial license starting with Starter. Murf lists commercial rights on Creator, and a separate Business License on the business plan. Murf also sells full broadcasting rights separately.
If you publish audio on YouTube, run ads or ship it inside a product, confirm the license terms for your plan on the vendor’s own page. A cheaper plan is not a bargain if it does not cover your use.
Who should pick ElevenLabs?
- Podcasters, YouTubers and audiobook makers who want a cloned or highly customized voice.
- Developers who need an API and pay-as-you-go pricing.
- Solo creators who want a low entry price: Starter is $6 a month.
- Founders working on multilingual products, given the 74 supported languages.
- Startups: ElevenLabs runs a Startup Grants Program listing 12 months free and 33M characters. Check eligibility on its site.
Who should pick Murf?
- Instructional designers and training teams that build in PowerPoint, Google Slides or Adobe Captivate.
- Marketing teams producing product demos and explainer videos.
- Teams that want a business license and a studio editor, and do not need to clone voices.
- Buyers whose procurement teams ask about certifications.
Questions to ask before you buy
- How many minutes of audio do I make each month? Murf counts hours. ElevenLabs counts credits. Convert your monthly volume before you compare plans.
- Do I need my own voice? If yes, price out ElevenLabs Creator against a Murf Enterprise quote.
- Where will the audio be published? Match the license to the channel.
- Who else needs a seat? Count teammates before you pick a plan.
- Which languages do I need? Test the voices in each language you plan to ship.
- What happens if I outgrow the plan? Check overage and upgrade rules on the vendor’s page.
The verdict by use case
- Solo creator on a small budget: ElevenLabs Starter or Creator.
- Voice cloning: ElevenLabs.
- App or agent builder: ElevenLabs, for the API.
- Training team working in slides: Murf.
- Business team that needs a license and compliance documents: Murf, or an ElevenLabs Business or Enterprise quote if you also need cloning and an API.
- Not sure: run the same 60-second script through both free tiers and listen. Voice quality is personal, and the free tiers do not allow commercial use, so treat that as a listening test only.
