Tax1099 Review: Pricing, E-Filing and Who It Fits

Tax1099 review

Businesses that hire contractors face the same January wall every year: collect the W-9s, check the taxpayer ID numbers, file the 1099s, send recipient copies, and fix whatever bounces back. Done by hand, it eats days and invites penalties for small errors.

Tax1099, by Zenwork, is an IRS-authorized e-file provider for 1099, W-2 and related information returns. It charges per form rather than per seat, so a seasonal filer pays for the filing run instead of a year of software. Our analysis is based on Tax1099’s published pricing page, checked 2026-10-04. What is Tax1099?

Tax1099 is a cloud e-filing service for US information returns, run by Zenwork, Inc. Businesses and their accountants use it to file forms such as 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC, along with other 1099 series forms, W-2s and ACA forms, with the IRS, state agencies through the Combined Federal/State Filing Program, and the SSA. It delivers recipient copies and keeps records. It is built for seasonal, deadline-driven work rather than year-round bookkeeping.

How much does Tax1099 cost?

Tax1099 charges per form, and the per-form price falls as your form count rises. That is the opposite shape from per-seat software: a business filing 15 forms pays a small total, and a firm filing thousands pays more in total but less per form. The rates below are the per-form e-filing chart on the vendor’s pricing page, checked 2026-10-04:

Forms filed Per-form e-filing fee
First 20 forms $2.99 each
21 to 150 forms $2.59 each
151 to 250 forms $1.99 each
251 to 500 forms $1.42 each
501 to 1000 forms $0.72 each
1000+ forms Contact sales

The tiers are cumulative. A run of 100 forms on pay as you go bills the first 20 at $2.99 and the remaining 80 at $2.59, which comes to $267.00 in e-filing fees before any add-ons.

On top of the per-form model, Tax1099 sells two annual plans:

Plan Price What Tax1099 lists
Essential Pay as you go, no annual subscription fee Start with no upfront fee or credit card
Teams $249 per year Reporting, team collaboration, 250 free TIN matches
Scale $349 per year API access, bulk TIN matching workflow, user management, notice management, SSO for a one-time implementation fee

Extras are priced separately, per the vendor’s pricing page charts:

  • TIN matching: real-time TIN match $1.00 per unit; TIN match within 24 hours $0.37 per request; bulk TIN match $150 per 10,000 records.
  • Recipient delivery: IRS-compliant eDelivery $0.50 per unit; Print and Mail $1.95 per form in the US and $4.99 per form for foreign mail.
  • State reconciliation forms: $4.99 per payer.
  • W-9 and W-8 eSolicitation: bulk bundles from $1.00 for 1 to $95.00 for 1000.

One caution: the worked example and FAQ on the same vendor pricing page quote older per-form and add-on figures that differ from the charts above. We publish the chart figures, as they are the page’s current rate charts. Confirm the rate for your exact form count on the vendor’s pricing page before January, because seasonal pricing and add-on fees can change the total.

What are Tax1099’s key features?

Per the published material, the named capabilities are:

E-filing for information returns. Secure eFile of 1099 series forms and W-2s with the IRS, state agencies and the SSA, plus corrected and void form eFiling and re-submission of rejected forms.

TIN matching. Taxpayer identification number checks against IRS records, used to catch mismatched names and numbers before filing rather than after a notice arrives. Matching is priced as an add-on on pay as you go and bundled in volume on the paid plans.

Bulk and scheduled filing. Scheduled eFile and volume handling, useful for firms filing for many clients or payers in the January window.

Data import and integrations. CSV import and 12+ no-code integrations, including QuickBooks Desktop and Online, BILL and Xero. If your books live in one of those, vendor and payment data can flow in instead of being retyped.

Recipient delivery and records. Recipient copies, 4-year secure account storage for forms and recipient copies, and audit trails with form history.

Platform extras. AI smart eFiling and 24/7 AI chat assistance, per the vendor’s description, and two-factor authentication.

Who should use Tax1099?

  • Small businesses with contractors. A modest stack of 1099-NECs each January, filed without buying payroll software. At the charted rates, 20 forms cost $59.80 in e-filing fees.
  • Accounting and bookkeeping firms. Bulk filing, TIN matching and per-form pricing that scales across clients.
  • QuickBooks, BILL and Xero users. The named integrations match where your payment data already lives.
  • Anyone burned by a January scramble before. Scheduled filing beats a shoebox of W-9s on January 30. When ready, file with Tax1099.

Who should skip Tax1099?

  • Businesses with no US information-return duty. If you file no 1099s or W-2s, there is nothing to e-file.
  • Companies whose payroll provider already files for them. If your 1099s and W-2s are inside an existing payroll bundle, a separate e-file service duplicates it.
  • Anyone expecting the per-form fee to include recipient delivery. eDelivery and print and mail are add-ons, priced above.
  • Anyone expecting year-round bookkeeping. This is a filing tool for a seasonal job, not a general accounting platform.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. What is the per-form price at my count? Find your bracket in the chart, and the breakpoint where the rate drops.
  2. What is included, and what is an add-on? TIN matching, state filing, recipient mailing, corrections and prior-year filing may price separately.
  3. Does Teams pay for itself? At $249 a year with 250 free TIN matches, compare it against pay as you go add-on prices for your volume.
  4. Does it file to my states? State requirements vary; confirm each state you pay recipients in.
  5. How do the QuickBooks, BILL and Xero connections handle duplicates? Line up a small batch before January.
  6. What is the turnaround on TIN matching? You need results back with time to fix bad numbers before the deadline.
  7. What support exists in late January? The whole customer base files in the same two weeks. Ask about support hours then, not in October.

A note on deadlines

Federal due dates cluster at the end of January for 1099-NEC recipient and IRS filing, with other forms on their own dates, and they shift some years. Confirm the current year’s dates with the IRS or your accountant. Software files the forms; the filing duty and the penalties for missing it stay with you.

The verdict

Tax1099 fits the seasonal shape of the work: pay per form, file in bulk, check TINs first, sync from QuickBooks, BILL or Xero, and be done. For a small business with a handful of contractors, the per-form model costs far less than a year of per-seat software bought for one January job: $2.99 a form at the smallest volumes, falling to $0.72 a form past 500.

The catch is the add-ons. TIN matching, recipient delivery and state reconciliation forms sit outside the headline per-form fee, and the vendor’s own page carries older figures in its example and FAQ, so confirm the chart rate, the add-ons and the state coverage for your count before the January rush, not during it.
